This project address the problem of loading from typhoons and survivability in soft soils of offshore wind turbines in China and is structured in five work groups (WG)
WG1 — wave environment
Modelling the evolution of waves in shallow waters under energy input. A variety of methods will be used including Boussinsq, non-linear Schrodinger; fully non-linear and laboratory experiments.
WG2 — wave loads
Looking at loads from breaking and non-breaking waves on monopiles. Both experimental and numerical methods will be used. Focus will go on the frequency content of the loads.
WG3 — wind environment and loads
Analysis of wind extreme during typhoon events
WG4 — unified design
Bringing together WG1-3 together with the latest developments in geotechnical engineering to improve design of offshore wind turbines.
